Legal framework of the Studentenwerke

The Studentenwerke have different legal frameworks.
  • 55 out of 57 Studentenwerke are public-law institutions (“Anstalten öffentlichen Rechts”).
  • Studentenwerk Göttingen is a public-law foundation (“Stiftung”).
  • The Studentenwerk in Saarland and the Hochschulwerk Witten/Herdecke are registered associations (“eingetragener Verein”).

The legal framework for the establishment, organisation and tasks carried out by these Studentenwerke are laid down in the respective state legislation, either in Higher Education Acts (“Hochschulgesetze”) or in particular Studentenwerk Acts (“Studentenwerksgesetz”), or in the respective statutes.
