Service Center for Intercultural Competence

Establishing a welcoming culture for international students. The Service Center for Intercultural Competence (Servicestelle Interkulturelle Kompetenz – SIK) shows how this works in practice with a wide-reaching information, advice and further education programme.

Making it easier for international students to find their way through their studies, complete them successfully and develop strong ties with their host country helps Germany become more attractive as a study location.

In addition to on-campus integration, the SIK...

  • lobbies for the interests of international students in the political arena
  • trains Studentenwerke employees and tutors who advise and supervise international students on intercultural issues
  • supports Studentenwerke in the further development and quality development of their service and advice offer for international students
  • offers a forum in which the situation of international students in Germany is discussed at symposia, tutor meetings and expert workshops with Studentenwerke and International Offices
  • communicates via brochures on international topics and provides information on  initiatives and projects relating to the integration of international students
